Occasionally we get asked... 'why do you need this information?', when we ask our clients for certain documentation - SSN, mortgage statement, driver's license, to name a few - in the process of credit repair.
In this day and age of fraud, identity theft, scams... We get it.
Honestly? We don't want this information. While we have a very secure server, we'd prefer not to have this info at all, even if it is tucked away behind several layers of encryption.
However, the credit reporting bureaus.. they require it. We can certainly work on a file without the documents the bureaus want, but there's no advantage to it. Typically, the bureaus may use this as one of many stalling tactics.
And I kind of understand that. Honestly, I don't know how much I'd like it if just anyone could write to the credit reporting bureaus and receive all of my account information for the last 7 years. As a credit repair company, we have to provide these documents to the bureaus to show that in fact, we are who we say we are.
Read below, and you'll get an understanding of what kinds of documents the bureaus require before investigating an account. To be certain, it's a legitimate request.
